#Blogtober16 Day 22 My Biggest Accomplishment.  I was going to be flippant and say getting to Day 22 of #Blogtober16! It is a huge accomplishment for someone who usually posts three to four times a week.

I don't have one biggest accomplishment, I have many. They all add up to who I am and where I am now.

I survived birth and childhood diseases. I had measles as a child and was in a "coma" for three days. This was quite common during the 1950s as the first measles vaccine wasn't available until 1968 and it wasn't the safest vaccine either.

I remember being eighteen months old. I can remember being taken to a creche in the factory my mother worked in.

I taught myself to read before I was four. All the children I admired were much older than me and could read. I hated not being able to read. I can still see myself sat on the doorstep with my A-Z book.

I passed the 11+ and I went to grammar school

I married at 18 because I wanted to, not because I had to. I married in 1974. We arranged it in three weeks, the quickest people could marry without the hassle of a special licence. I was eighteen and not pregnant, the usual reason for a hasty marriage in those days.

I hitchhiked across Europe and lived in Greece for a year

I hitchhiked to Cardiff with Grandad and a few things in a backpack. Everything we now own Grandad and I worked hard for.

I had two healthy children. On both occasions maternity leave was eleven weeks.That was five weeks before the birth and six weeks after. If, like me, you had your babies late then you couldn't return to work before six weeks but your maternity pay would have finished.

I qualified as a nurse whilst pregnant with my first child. I became a sister in charge of an Ophthalmic operating theatre after the birth of my second child, then a few years later in charge of three operating theatres.

My children are fantastic adults and have found themselves the most amazing partners. I am so proud of them both.

I retired early, at 58.

I am sitting on a sofa I own in a house I own.

I have the most amazing grandson, he's the apple of my eye and every day I have a new accomplishment. Making cookies with a two year old or getting him to sit still long enough to eat anything.

I am who I am because of all these things. They are my greatest accomplishments.
