New Adventures Old Places - Cefn Onn Park

New Adventures. Old Places. Bear walking in the stream at Cefn Onn Park

This week has been all about New Adventures Old Places. We are very lucky to have some lovely places near us to visit. Bear had a cold and the weather was warm so we decided to go jumping in puddles to cheer him up. Our local park Cefn Onn didn't have any puddles! It does have lots of streams which usually at this time of year are full and rushing down the hills. They were almost dry, just an inch or two of water so I let Bear walk and play in one. I suppose it won't be long before we are told there's a water shortage.

Bear was fascinated in how the stones and sticks that are covered in mud get washed clean in the water. He played for ages.

Autumn is here even if the weather has stayed warm and sunny. The trees are changing colour and the sunrises are fantastic. We also keep finding lots of fungi.

We didn't want to take Bear to Tots this week as he was just recovering from a cold and didn't want him catching another so we decided to take a bus into town. We haven't done this before with Bear. Grandad and I both have passes so it really makes sense and Bear loved it. It's a long way on the bus but he was as good as gold.

We went into the Cardiff Story Museum in the old Library. It's a great place to take children as it is all hands on. We even had time for a cup of coffee.

On Thursday we went to Tredegar House for a run around the park. There was a great big carved acorn on the grass.

"Stand by the acorn Bear" I asked "Let me take a photo"

"No" said Bear as he ran across the park.

What's New this week?

Bear is getting really good at singing. He can do all the actions to The Wheels on The Bus and many others.

But this week isn't about Bear it is about his Daddy. Daddy can now put the letters B.Eng after his name. He has passed his degree in engineering with the Open University. It has been an amazing achievement as he has continued whilst Bear was a baby on only a few hours sleep a day, through moving home when his biggest project was due. No internet, no computer, just boxes of stuff.

We are really glad to have him back too. There's not a lot of time left when doing a degree and working full time. We are very proud.

We had already arranged a family Sunday Meal and it was great to meet up with Bears aunty and Uncle too.

I even made cup cakes! Daddy's favourites are Ferrero Rocher and Nutella so it had to be Ferrero Rocher and Nutella Cup Cakes.

Friday was the 50th anniversary of the Aberfan Disaster. 116 children and 28 adults lost their lives. I leave this candle here as a tribute to them, their families and all those affected by that awful tragedy. Rest In Peace.
