Baker Days Letterbox Cake- Review

It's not often that I get a tweet asking if I'd like a cake* to review! Also one that would fit through my letterbox so I do not have to stay in waiting for it. Of course I said yes straight away and went to Baker Days website to choose my cake.

What a fantastic choice! I decided on a Vanilla Sponge Father's Day Letterbox Cake for Grandad. But which one? After much indecision I chose one I could add a photograph and personalise.

Bakers Day Letterbox Cake- Review cake with the worlds best grandad Happy fathers day lots of love Bear xxx
Baker Days Letterbox Cake

My Baker Days Letterbox Cake arrived very quickly and it would have easily fitted through my letterbox but my postman, being a very helpful man, knocked on my door and handed it to me.

I couldn't wait to open the box and to my delight there was a beautiful tin inside with a card, some balloons, a party blower and two candles. Everything you would need for a small celebration.

Inside the tin was the cake. It was beautifully presented and Grandad loved it. He just loved the picture of Bear singing. I hadn't told him about it so it was a complete surprise.

Bear helped by putting the candles in and couldn't wait to get started so before he pulled it all apart I cut him a portion. The cake is very small, only 5" x 1" as it has to fit through a letterbox, but it would serve two very generous or four smaller portions.

Bear doesn't like cake. He never eats it. He usually refuses to try cake and if he does put it into his mouth he just spits it out again. What about this cake?

Bear loved it!

What did we think? Grandad liked the flavour, he said he could taste the vanilla but that it was a bit dry. I thought so too. The description was vanilla sponge cake kept moist with buttercream and apple & raspberry jam. Our cake sadly had no jam or buttercream.  It was such a shame because it looked fantastic. I loved the writing and the photo. I loved the idea of it being a surprise and fitting through the letterbox.

Baker Days make 4 sizes of cake with 100's of designs to choose from. The smallest is the letterbox cake and costs £14.99 including personalisation and UK delivery. For an additional cost they do different flavours including chocolate chip. They also make gluten or dairy free and can deliver internationally.

I loved our cake. I loved the way it was presented in a tin and the little extra's. It was a shame it was dry and it is a bit expensive but I think it would make a wonderful surprise gift for someone. Fathers day is not far away and I am sure dad's and grandad's would love this. Bears Grandad did.

Don't forget to visit Baker Days on facebook and twitter. They are running a competition to win your own letterbox cake (ends 30.05.16). Good Luck!
