Week One with Slimming World

Last Tuesday I joined Slimming World on-line, it's now been a week and yesterday I did my first weigh-in.
I lost 5lbs and I also measured my waist and lost 2 inches. I always like to measure as well as weigh as sometimes there may not be any weight loss, or even a gain, but the inches still come off somewhere so it boosts morale. I was really pleased with my first week and it puts me on target to lose the rest over a year.

My Subscription

I will mention what I ate later but first what I got for my subscription. I have access to the website which is full of information with recipes, free foods, syns....enough to make my head spin. I couldn't find my way around as that evening my broadband played up, then it went. I didn't have reliable broadband for three or four days and trying to navigate the website via my phone was difficult. I couldn't wait for the books to arrive.

Now this is my first whinge with doing it online. I had to wait days for my books and my second whinge? They were tiny little books, one about exercising and one about the plan. Not a recipe in sight. Not at all what I was expecting for £15. I already had a book that I had bought a few years ago from a bargain book club that we had at work. It cost me about £4.99 (RRP £16.99) and it has all the information I need albeit is a bit old and lots of recipes. It doesn't have anything about activities but there is lots of information on the website. I am also expecting a magazine but not sure when that will come.

What I have Learnt So Far

Slimming World is easy once you get the basics sorted. There is nothing out of bounds. It is a low fat, low sugar diet. I can eat any meat I like, any fruit and any veg. I do not have to weigh anything, as long as the meat is lean, all fat cut off and the skin removed from the chicken.

Then there are Syns. Anything not in the above I must weigh, measure and check how many Syns are in them before I eat them. I could have cake, biscuits anything, I just have to save my Syns and count them. I can also choose how many Syns I have each day, between 5 and 15 but I haven't read any guidance on how to choose. I'm going to have 10 to start and see how I go.

It took until Sunday for me to learn about Healthy Extras (HEX). These are foods that are rich in calcium, Healthy Extra A (HEXA), or fibre, Healthy Extra B (HEXB).
I must have one measured portion of each every day. Oops, didn't have any for 5 days. These are foods like a slice of wholemeal bread or two weetabix. The calcium foods are a small portion of cheese or a measured glass of milk. I discovered I could have five Brazil Nuts as a Healthy Extra so that is great as a snack in the evening.

I am so pleased with myself, it hasn't been easy as I have had so much to learn and I missed a few days until I had filled the larder with Slimming World friendly foods.

Goal

Are you doing Slimming World? Do you have any tips for me or any suggestions?
