Walking Into the New Year with Vionic Walking Boots - Review*

Since my husband had his new hip last year we have been trying to walk more. Our aim is to be out walking in the Brecon Beacons by the summer. It has got off to a slow start, mainly because of the weather. I'm happy to walk in all weathers but not thunder and lightning of which there seems to be a lot around this year! Then Christmas came and I became a bit of a couch potato, so when I was sent a pair of Everett walking boots by Vionic I was determined to start the New Year walking.
The Everett are stylish and weather resistant and are made from nubuck and textile. I was a little concerned at the description "weather resistant" as opposed to "weatherproof" but they kept my feet dry when walking in wet grass and mud. The soles are made of rubber and the boot is very light to wear.

The whole range of Vionic footwear, including the Everett, have a unique shock-absorbing insole. The insole is designed to keep your feet supported, helping to correct poor posture and is ideal for anyone who suffers from heel pain or plantar fasciitis.

Plantar fasciitis is a painful condition where your feet roll in too far (over pronation). This has many causes including pregnancy, weight gain and quickly increasing activity. Unsupportive shoes contribute to this too, the insoles in Vionic footwear is designed to stop your feet from rolling inwards and gives support to the arch of the foot.

This sounds perfect for me as although I have never had Plantar Fasciitis I do experience heel pain and backache if I walk for long distances over hard surfaces, such as pavements, gravel or stone. Christmas certainly helped with the unwanted weight gain and my intention of walking more and for longer distances means I am at risk of getting this painful condition.

I am hoping this technology will prevent that and also help with my back pain.

It is suggested that you wear the boots for a few hours a day increasing this slowly over a few weeks to allow your feet to get accustomed to them. I found they were comfortable from the minute I put them on. I could feel the insoles support my feet, they were quite soft under foot. They are slightly narrow for my very wide feet but I have that problem with all footwear. I am hoping they will relax a little with use.

I started by wearing them around the house, then to the park and on longer and longer walks. We had booked a weekend away in the Cotswolds so I thought this would be perfect to really try them out.

I found they were comfortable to wear all day, even walking around towns and villages which usually make my feet and backache. I prefer a softer surface underfoot like grass. In fact, they were so comfortable I didn't even think about the surface I was walking on, except at the Rollright Stones where I picked my way carefully through the mud.

Whilst we were in the Cotswolds we came across many walkers, surprisingly the same ones again and again. We would drive the mile or so to our next destination and see them emerge, mud up to their knees, from a field or a path. They were walking the Wardens Trail, a trail that links many of the prettier villages and towns. If we had known about it before our visit we would have come more prepared. We will definitely be back to do the Wardens Trail confident that my Everett Vionic boots will be well worn in and not let me down.

Upper Slaughter may be beautiful but in the winter it's very muddy

It was really cold and very muddy when we went and my feet stayed dry and warm. I didn't get the usual backache or heel pain either. I can't ask for more, I will definitely be walking more in 2018.

It may be wet but my feet are warm and dry

There is a vast range of footwear on the Vionic website including sandals, sneakers, shoes and boots in both ladies and mens styles.

The Everett boots cost £120 and at the time of writing are on sale. Why not have a look at their website and get yourself a bargain?

*I was sent a pair of boots for the purpose of this review. All opinions are honest and my own.

  5. I've had plantar fasciitis before and it's awful. And I started getting it again last year due to wearing flip flops so much. These sound great to help prevent!
