Bedroom & Office Makeover - Duck Egg And Gold Mood Board

I have wanted my own space for as long as I can remember. I really want my own desk. We are lucky to have a spare bedroom and I want a place that I can fill with pretty and glittery things I like. I have got this far before, redecorating and adding some bits and pieces when my daughter decided she liked it and wanted it for her own. She now has a home of her own and I am finally planning and restyling the room again, just for me.
I want it to be a spare bedroom, with a double bed, for when family stay over but also to have a home office where I can do my sewing, write my blog or trace my family tree.
Like most people my stuff treasured belongings are spread all over the house, in my bedroom, in the study, falling off the table in the living room and dining room. I want it to be in one place, where I can start a project and leave it until it's finished without having to clear away to have a meal, or to keep out of little hands.

Even though I have decorated and made over more rooms than I can remember this is my first makeover on the blog. My first house was a Victorian terrace and we completely renovated everything. This house is modern, it is twenty years old and we have had it from new.

The Mood Board

When planning a room I always start with either a fabric or a wallpaper I love. I know wallpaper went out of fashion for a while but has now made a well deserved comeback. I love a feature wall. It adds warmth and interest to a room.

This room is based around a duck egg blue wallpaper. It's Waters Edge by Arthouse, a slightly textured paper featuring gold dragonflies. It is a little Art Nouveux, my favourite interior design period.

I already have white bed linen but love the White Company Avignon, it has little pom-poms edging the crisp white linen.

Dunelm is always my first go to for blinds and curtains. They have such a good range and not too expensive.

Ikea features heavily as they make such affordable and stylish furniture. the desk, chair and boxes are all from here. I have also seen a fake sheepskin rug which will add a little bit of luxury and warmth to the room.

Glamour

Have you seen Kate Spade New York products? I recently came across them on John Lewis' website and fell in love. An acrylic and gold stapler will adorn my desk (well maybe not at £25 but a girl can dream).

Peacock feathers will add a little bit of glam and colour and I have found some on eBay (I have never bought anything on eBay before but at £0.99p + postage I feel I can't go wrong).

Marks and Spencers have these gorgeous Dragonfly lights, I think I will treat myself as they would go with the wall paper so well.

Finally the fabric, I love the richness of it and it would look luxurious made into a few cushions for the bed.

Floor and walls

I am going to paint the other walls, a shade of Duck Egg Blue. I haven't chosen the exact colour yet as I am waiting for the wallpaper to arrive but will use Valspar Premium paint* as it is available in so many colours and can be mixed to match any sample you have.

I would have liked to paint the floor boards white but they just are not good enough and they go in two directions so it would look strange. I have bought sheet vinyl, (of white floorboards), and will use that. I usually have carpet in the bedrooms as it helps with reducing noise but this is a spare room so I am sure it won't be a problem.

I hope you like my first interior post and I will follow up with some before and after posts.

*Disclosure - Valspar Paints are providing the paint for the makeover in return for an honest review

  1. This is a nice post. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I also wanted to decorate my bedroom with my own choice and recently I did it. I decorate the interior wall of my bedroom with arthouse wallpaper which has a beautiful color and shade.
