The Summer holidays are here soon and we will all be looking for fun places to take our little ones that do not break the bank. Everywhere that charge an admission raise their prices  during the holidays and that can be expensive if you have multiple children. Here are a 10 fun free ideas for days out that we love. These are based in South Wales, within an hour of Cardiff but I am sure you will have similar near you. Although these are all free to visit there may be a parking charge.

Newport Wetlands and Caerphilly Castle

Grandad has been given the date of his operation for his new hip. It is for 12th April. As I do not drive it meant we only really had a week to get out and about. I wanted to revisit Newport Wetlands and to see the new dragon at Caerphilly Castle. We love Newport Wetlands. It is a safe environment for toddlers, even with all the water. Although best not to put your fingers through the netting as the swans think it's food.

Caerleon, The Roman Fortress Of ISCA - A Toddler Explores

Caerleon, the Roman Fortress of ISCA, is just a few miles from Cardiff. There is an amphitheatre that could hold up to six thousand spectators, the finest remains of Roman barrack buildings in Europe and a museum. We took Bear to explore the amphitheatre and buildings. He was feeling a bit poorly as he had a cold so our visit was cut short when he got tired and we didn't get to walk the Roman walls. Maybe another day.

Caerwent Roman Town - A Toddler Explores

Not far from Cardiff is a fabulous Roman Town. It is an archaeologist dream. It has shops, a temple, a Basilica Forum (I don't know either but I think it's like their main town square). So off we went on Tuesday to visit Caerwent Roman Town.
